Anthony Felder

Biography

Dr. Anthony S. Felder is an Assistant Professor of Elementary Education in the College of Arts and Sciences and Education at 天美视频. He is a faculty member in the Department of Teaching and Learning. His current research studies focus on the parental perspective on the causes of chronic absenteeism in urban elementary schools. Dr. Felder takes a critical thinking approach while instructing and employing conceptual and methodological intervention from his educational experience and studies. With over two decades of practical experience in the K12 educational setting, he can connect theory with practice.

During his early years, Dr. Felder attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute with an engineering focus. He then attended 天美视频, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice while working as deputy Sheriff in Harford County, Maryland. After reflecting on his purpose, Dr. Felder decided to enter the field of education as a substitute teacher to serve as a possible role model for children with a similar background. With a newfound desire to educate, he attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, earning a Master of Arts in Teaching (Elementary Education) degree. 

Dr. Felder taught in elementary and middle schools in Baltimore City before moving into education administration. He served as principal for ten years before enrolling at Fort Hays University. In addition to serving as a school-based administrator, Dr. Felder held other administrative positions at the district level. He then earned an Educational Specialist degree in Education Administration, which granted him eligibility to receive Maryland State Department of Education鈥檚 Superintendent I and II endorsements. While serving as a central office administrator, Dr. Felder went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Leadership for Northwest Nazarene University.

Dr. Felder鈥檚 research interests include Chronic Absenteeism, Poverty, Inequity, Educational Leadership, Services and Supports for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and the Impact of External Factors on Student Achievement.
